Live at Home is also a service that encourages and enables older people to participate once again in their local community. The energy and commitment for each Live at Home scheme comes from local people. The scheme offers the following activities and services to any older person (60+) living within our funded area. To partake in the activities membership is essential and involves an informal chat with the Scheme Manager to complete a needs assessment and ascertain the individual's requirements.
The Rothwell and District Live at Home Scheme is a local voluntary project, which offers friendship, activities and support to retired people over the age of 60 who live in their own homes. The scheme became operational in August 2000 and covers the Rothwell, Oulton. Woodlesford, Methley, Carlton, Robin Hood, Thorpe and Lofthouse areas. The scheme has five paid members of staff and is dependent upon external funding from various sources for its continued existence and growth. Essential to our work is the help and support of our volunteers who give their time freely and generously and without whom we could not continue to provide our services.
Volunteering with Rothwell & District Live at Home Scheme:
Rothwell & District Live at Home Scheme greatly welcome new volunteers to help us deliver out services in the community. We accept volunteers of all ages - many of our volunteers are retired people themselves - and are therefore also able to join in all our activities. If you or some one you know would like an informal chat to discuss out volunteering opportunities further please contact Lesleyon telephone number: 0113 2880887 or email us on This email address is being protected from spambots. The following quotation aptly describes the commitment of our 50 volunteers who support the scheme in a variety of roles:
"Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world" Author: Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
If you feel that you could give time on a regular basis ~ perhaps as little as an hour a week ~ or would like to know more about the Scheme, then please phone the Live at Home office, and talk to either Lesley or Janet for further information - 0113 288 0887.
Befriending Service
A direct contact volunteer will develop a one to one relationship with the scheme member and visit them in their home. All volunteers have to supply references, undertake a criminal records bureau check and sign a confidentiality statement. They are also issued with a photo identity card. The volunteer and member will be matched and will hopefully have similar family circumstances, work experience or interests to share. The Live at Home Manager will arrange the match and then personally help with the first introduction.
The scheme has a waiting list of members for a befriender and we are actively seeking to increase the number of befriender volunteers.
