Jamie Jones-Buchanan of Leeds Rhinos came to Rothwell on the 5th February to a meeting launching Rothwell's 2011 Alpha course. Jamie told a little of his story, and reflected on how his Christian faith affects his life and game.
"Rothwell Churches Together" used the meeting as an introduction to a series of "Alpha" offered in Rothwell for 2011.
Rothwell Alpha is a ten week exploration of the Christian faith. There’s no pressure, just open and honest discussion where you can bring all the questions and things that annoy you about anything to do with Christianity or religion. You ask it, listen to what has got to be said and then make a decision.
Rothwell Alpha is being run by "Churches Together in Rothwell and District" which is a group representing all of the churches in the Rothwell area.
The Alpha course runs for 10 weeks, watch here for details of the next one.
The Alpha course is designed primarily for people who aren’t churchgoers and is open to everyone who would like to attend. People attend for a wide variety of reasons - some want to investigate whether God exists, others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith. People come from many different backgrounds and hold many different viewpoints.
Each session begins with a light meal - a chance to get to know others. There is then a short talk, which looks at a different aspect of the Christian faith each week. This is followed by a time of discussion in the small groups, where everyone is welcome to contribute their opinion, ask questions and discuss with the rest of the group. The talks each week cover the following topics:
The emphasis is upon exploration and discovery in a relaxed and informal environment. There is no charge for attending the Alpha course, although we ask for a contribution towards the food. If you require more information then:
