Residents welcome flashing alert signs PDF Print E-mail
(There is a rumour about this story.)

Local residents campaigning to stop speeding traffic have welcomed the first success in their campaign. Dynamic speed alert signs have been placed on Wood Lane, Rothwell and on Aberford Road. The new signs flash if a driver is going too fast, tell the driver to slow down and what the speed limit is (30 mph).

wood_lane_speed_signKaren Bruce, local resident and Labour Party campaigner said, "I welcome these two dynamic alert signs as a start in improving road safety. It's great that the campaign is starting to work and we are seeing some success. However, there is still a long way to go. It's encouraging that our demands have forced some action. We will continue our campaign with vigour as we must have a lorry ban on the danger roads and a crossing at Royds School. We also need more of these flashing signs which warn drivers to slow down and remind them of the speed limit."

"It shows that people power works and I will continue to work with the Leeds Road Residents Action Group to highlight the road safety dangers because we don't want to wait for the worst to happen until action is taken and I am determined that the relevant measures are taken in all the identified danger spots."
