Start your health ‘Kick’ at Rothwell’s Cool Kicks!

If you are looking for an activity that stimulates not just the body, but also the mind, why not look into trying out Kickboxing? The LS26 area has facilities for lots of sports but something that at times dips under the radar is Rothwell’s ‘Cool Kicks’.

Cool Kicks has been running for just over 2 years, starting with initially a Wednesday class that then expanded into an extra session on a Monday a few months later due to popular demand.

The sessions are run by Paul Stoner who started kickboxing around 20 years ago at a local club in Hunslet, and he gradually worked through his grading’s to achieve black belt.

Paul gave us a great summary about why he thought Kickboxing was so good as a form of exercise:

Kickboxing gives a total body workout which boosts fitness, flexibility, core strength and co-ordination. It can also help to boost self confidence along with the ability to practice self defence moves.

The great thing about Cool Kicks is that all their classes are designed for all levels and with no gender barrier. The Monday class is for juniors and adults and is a 90 minute session, and the Wednesday class is family friendly with children starting from age 5 onwards including juniors and adults and this is a 60 minute session. The sessions cover a variety of exercises including warm up, stretching, cardio, pad work and sparring (which helps practice the moves from the class).

I asked Paul, If someone was to start their classes as a beginner, what would you need? he replied:

If someone was to start our classes all we ask they wear is a plain black t-shirt and plain black jogging bottoms/leggings, something they will be comfy in doing exercises. Sessions are in barefoot so no need for new trainers! We have supplies of gloves and pads that people can use, however many people bring their own pair. We do provide a price list of items that people can purchase if they want of uniform and equipment etc.

So there we have it, something a bit different to running, cycling or kicking a ball around. If you want to find out more about Cool Kicks, check out their listing on our LS26 business directory by clicking here, you will find all their contact details as well as a map with their location.

If you have a class, activity or support group that runs in the LS26 area and you would like to be featured on our website just drop us a line. Our aim is to support all local businesses, groups and charities to keep LS26 a great place to live.
